MOXĒ Bug Spray - Plant-Based Insect Protection, Non-Toxic & Safe for Kids - 7oz

I like the MOXE Insect Repellent. I try to avoid insect repellents that include deet or other harmful chemicals, so I appreciate that this product uses a plant-based formula. It has the natural, bright smell of essential oils. The repellent does a decent job of keeping the insects away. It’s not perfect and has been reapplied about once an hour, but I like it better than mainline brands with deet or other chems. Four stars.

I am the kind of person who has a superhuman ability to attract mosquitos in the back corner of a restaurant in a large city that uses pesticides. My hobbies include gardening and repeated attempts to craft the perfect outside space for home. Unfortunately my gift and hobbies clash because of mosquitos. I'm accustomed to using 40% deet spray because it works but I hate using it for health concerns, so when a new natural product pops up, I'm both excited at the thought of a natural insecticide and hesitant to its proclaimed efficacy.I used Moxē Insect Repellent several times over the course of about a week, and can say that it sort of works. On evening walks with my fiancé, I've applied this product liberally and can say that as long as I didn't linger too long in one particular space ogling an unidentified plant, Moxē worked. It has a pleasant smell for an insecticide, with top notes of citronella and Rosemary. The Rosemary and geranium oils mellow out some of the harshness of citronella's pungent aroma; the smell attracted a few flies to my ankles, and a dragonfly bonked me in the face.Standing in my yard or any wooded area was less promising. Just today I applied more than I typically would, roughly 6 sprays per arm and about 10 sprays per leg, until I was well covered. Like most insecticides, Moxē Insect Repellent creates a oiliness on the skin and clothes to prevent the essential oils from drying out skin. Once liberally applied, I set the bottle on a work bench, and stood in my backyard where mosquitos began to swarm me. Of the 30 or so mosquitos that swarmed, only about five landed briefly on me before quickly returning to the swarm to find a less coated spot. Of the five that landed, only one would stick around and bathe in the hot sauce like a psychopath before biting me. It went like this for about an hour while I worked on an outside craft project. The entire hour was an irritating one because they wouldn't stop swarming. I ended up with about 12 mosquito bites. It could've been worse. It has been worse.I went back to pick up the Moxē Insect Repellent bottle I left on the work bench; it was covered in ants (see picture). The dragonfly that flew into me the day before probably wasn't a fluke.If you are like my fiancé, blessed by nature, prancing around like a goat rarely worrying about mosquitos and just need a natural precaution for a camping trip, Moxē will be fine for you. However, if mosquitos see you as their favorite mobile buffet and have an app to track you down, Moxē Insect Repellent is only going to deter the bugs that don't like hot sauce.

This product smells amazing. It is made of essential oils. It is deet and alcohol-free. It works most effectively if you spray it on your skin and then rub it evenly. I found that it is a great alternative to your normal bug spray.
