Good coffee, Easy Care

I like that the sock filter makes good coffee, that it is economical, and easy care. Although I can dump the coffee grounds in the trash, where it suppresses bad odors, I frequently dump the grounds into a bowl for use in my garden. The grounds are high in nitrogen, and can go into compost or directly into the garden.I clean the sock filter about once a week by putting it in a bowl in the microwave, and let it boil for 5-10 minutes. EASY!

Eco-friendly alternative to paper coffee filters

I have re-purchased Coffee socks a few times over the last few years. Each box of 2 lasts me ~ 2 years. Daily, after removing the grounds, I rinse the filter well and air dry. Every 8 weeks I boil the filter for 10 minutes (using some baking soda if necessary to remove coffee oils). After boiling & air drying I store the clean filter and use the other filter for 8 weeks, rotating between the filters. These are sturdy and don't allow any particles through. They make a great cup of coffee, and can be composted at the end of their useful life.

Another zero waste win

Got this to replace disposable coffee filters for my one-cup pour-over, and it fits perfectly. Have been using for over a month with no complaints. I'm a self-proclaimed coffee snob and use a dark French roast coffee (the beans are quite oily), and it has consistently made a great cup of coffee and has been easy to clean.Cleaning notes: I scrape the grounds into my compost using a spoon; I find leaving it in the pour-over cup creates more resistance and allows you to get more of the grounds out. I turn it inside-out and throughly rinse under running water while rubbing it together and squeezing a few times until the water runs clear, then turn it right-side-out and hang to dry on my bag-drying rack and it's ready for the next day. It's unavoidable that some grounds end up down the drain, but not a concerning amount IMO. I only drink one cup a day, but have also forgotten to clean it a few times so ended up using it wet on those occasions and it still made a great cup of coffee.I've put it through my dishwasher once, for a more thorough monthly cleaning, and then hung to dry. I'm not sure it really needs this, but figured it couldn't hurt. I see others have put it through their washing machine, but I question how laundry detergent may impact the flavor of the coffee (I was also curious how our Ecover citrus dishwasher detergent might also impact the flavor, but have to admit I didn't notice a difference). I feel like I'm fairly discerning when it comes to taste, but I'm also not one to identify individual notes in my coffee or wine so use that knowledge how you will.

My best coffee ever with these filters

I make a very hybrid coffee (I found out it's called a "polished" French press). I dump 29 grams fine-ground coffee into a 32 oz. glass jar, add 425 grams water at 195 degrees, stir gently 5 times, and after 5 minutes pour the contents of the glass jar through a 5" very-fine-mesh strainer into the coffee sock. The coffee sock is sitting in a #2 stainless steel Hario dripper, and the dripper is set into and onto the top of a large stainless steel French press coffee brewer that I use to catch the final filtered coffee because it's double-walled and retains the heat. So my French press is doubly-strained: first through the 5" fine mesh strainer, then through the coffee sock sitting in the Hario dripper. The coffee sock is fantastic. I first tried a Hario cloth filter, and initially I thought the Hario filter was better because it has more nap to it, but it turned out that made no difference. The flow rate through the coffee sock is perfect for the technique I described above. As far as care, I don't let it dry out (that's the recommendation that comes with the filter). Instead, I rinse it very thoroughly under hot water, wring the excess water out, and store it in a plastic bag in the refrigerator. It rinses very, very easily. Once every couple of weeks I wash it with Free and Clear Unscented dish detergent, and once every 2-3 months I'll boil it in water with a teaspoon of Oxidol (unscented!!!!), which restores the coffee sock to virtually new.Great product.

USA made incredible organic coffee filter

I have been using the coffee sock since March 2020 and been floored by the tasty, flavorful brewed coffee immediately. There’s no looking back!!Not missing paper, plastic, or “gold” filters at all as they gave me too often heartburn. Actually I’ve had ulcers and have Barrett’s esophagus and am not allowed to drink much coffee, if at all. This coffee sock allows me to drink coffee without problems and friends have been complimenting me on the great taste and flavor of my brew. The filter comes in a beautiful cream color but don’t expect it to stay that way, it will turn brown. That does not affect the taste at all. After brewing the coffee, take the filter out. Once cooled off, leave it on the sink to dry out a little. Throw the coffee grinds into your compost, add to the soil of outdoor flowers, and/or indoor plants if you use organic fair trade coffee like I do. Wash the sock in warm water, hang it up to dry, ready to be used again. Not only am I thrilled by the taste, I love that it is made of organic cotton at fair pay right here in the USA. While researching different brands I found this product to be the only one truly made in the USA! Too many times there’s no indication of where a product is made, only a US phone number for customer service is given!! Really?? Lol!The coffee socks I purchased in March 2020 are still in pristine condition, unfortunately one of my old coffee socks disappeared and I had to order a new set as I like to rotate the socks. I brew 6 cups of coffee daily.Highly recommend this item if you value great tasting coffee, buying products made in the USA, and like to do your share for the environment.
