Pelagonium Graveolens Oil

High Risk

Pelargonium graveolens oil is an essential oil extracted from the leaves and stems of the rose geranium plant. It is commonly used in cosmetics and personal care products for its fragrance and potential skin benefits.

Sustai Insights

Pelargonium graveolens oil offers functional benefits as a fragrance component and may possess skin-soothing properties. However, it has a high allergenic potential, posing risks of skin irritation and sensitization. Environmental concerns include its potential as a pollutant, though it is not classified as bioaccumulative. Regulatory bodies have placed some restrictions on its use, and the overall risk level is assessed as high. Users should exercise caution, particularly those with sensitivities, and explore safer alternatives such as synthetic fragrances or other essential oils.

Sustai Insights

D-alpha tocopherol provides effective antioxidant benefits, contributing to product stability. It is sustainably sourced and generally regarded as safe, with low concerns regarding carcinogenicity, allergies, and reproductive toxicity. However, there are minor concerns about endocrine disruption. Regulatory bodies have not imposed significant restrictions, indicating low overall risk. Recommended usage practices include adhering to established safe concentration thresholds. Alternatives, such as other forms of Vitamin E or plant-based antioxidants, may also be considered.

Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil

Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil

Low Risk

Carthamus tinctorius (safflower) seed oil is derived from the seeds of the safflower plant. It is primarily used in cosmetic formulations for its emollient properties, helping to moisturize and soften the skin. The oil is rich in unsaturated fatty acids and is often employed in skin care products for its potential benefits to skin health.

Sustai Insights

Safflower seed oil offers functional benefits as a moisturizer and emollient, contributing to skin hydration without significant irritation. It is generally recognized as low risk concerning health impacts, with minimal concerns over carcinogenicity, allergies, and reproductive toxicity. Environmentally, it poses low risks, being non-bioaccumulative and not a significant pollutant. Regulatory bodies do not impose restrictions on its use, underscoring its safety profile. Waxy and thick

I love natural products, love the idea of less plastic as well and was excited to try this. I noticed after using it for a couple of days, I got a bunch of bumps on my body which I assume is do to the bees wax and the body not absorbing it like regular lotion. I assume it traps oils and other stuff under the product causing me specifically to break out. I do shower and dry off properly before applying. This is also the only new thing I’ve used. I’m going to keep using it ($$$ not gonna waste the money I spent) but I hope the bumps will stop coming after getting used to the product. (Bergamot/patchouli scent)

Compact and smells great

This lotion bar exceeds my expectation. I had no clue what to expect in a lotion bar this being my first one that I bought on a whim. Oh man is it great though. Soothed my dry skin within the first week, looks like it'll last me a few months and compact and able to take anywhere during travel. Loving it so far and will most likely buy another!

updated review

A couple months later, this is my go-to. I learned that right after a hair wash, I do need something more immediate, so I use the Jergens, but the rest of the time, I use this. All in all, my hands feel less dry, and I need relief less often. I absolutely love it. I do have to wait a little longer for absorption, but that’s an easy adjustment. As for the smell, it disappeared soon after I started using it regularly. It’s not nose-blindness, either, so I think if you just leave the tin open a bit, the smell will dissipate. Will try with my next tin.Old review:I really wanted to like this. I’m 48, have very dry hands, & have used Jergen’s Ultra for decades. I’m flying soon & wanted an alternative. This looks shiny on the skin, but feels waxy. Maybe it works long term, but in the moment of application, there’s no satisfying, hydrating feeling, like water on a hot day.I got the lemon vanilla, and it’s so strong my scent-sensitive son had to move away from me. Nearly an hour later, I can still smell it, so I’m afraid to rub my eyes. My skin also looks shiny still, and feels a little slick, but it’s not greasy and won’t come off on my clothes.

Feels and smells so good and saves space

It didn’t come out of the tin in one solid bar as the pictures suggest - the consistency is more like lip balm. Not a big deal. Just a small amount easily emulsified in my hand and when I smoothed it on after a shower, I was impressed by how amazing it feels and smells. Even dry areas like feet and elbows felt great. It’s not greasy at all, just good ingredients that soften and moisturize. This lotion is perfect for me because I have dry skin but like to travel light and don’t always like to use hotel lotion. This significantly increases bag space and I need more of it.
