Anise

Anise

High Risk

Anise, derived from the Pimpinella anisum plant, is commonly used for its aromatic properties in food, beverages, and cosmetic formulations. It acts as a flavoring agent and has potential uses in formulations requiring antifungal or antimicrobial effects due to its natural compounds.

Sustai Insights

Anise offers functional benefits as a flavoring agent and may possess antimicrobial properties. However, it has a high potential for allergies and immunotoxicity, with concerns about its irritant effects. While it is not classified as a carcinogen or reproductive toxin, its environmental impact requires caution due to potential pollution risks. Regulatory agencies do not currently restrict its use significantly, but the overall risk assessment indicates a high risk level based on the current scientific consensus. Users should exercise care and consider alternatives such as fennel or star anise for similar benefits.

Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil

Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil

Medium Risk

Castor oil is extracted from the seeds of Ricinus communis and is commonly used in cosmetic and personal care products for its moisturizing and emollient properties. It is known for its ability to enhance skin absorption and provide a protective barrier.

Sustai Insights

Castor oil offers functional benefits as a moisturizer and emollient, enhancing skin absorption and providing a barrier against moisture loss. It is sustainably sourced and biodegradable. However, potential health risks include low levels of irritation and moderate concerns regarding developmental and reproductive toxicity. Environmental risks are low, with no significant pollutant or bioaccumulation concerns reported. Regulatory status shows no current restrictions. Overall, the risk level is assessed as medium, with recommendations for safe usage practices, and potential alternatives include other plant-based oils.

Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Oil

Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Oil

Low Risk

Prunus armeniaca (apricot) oil is a cosmetic ingredient derived from the seeds of the apricot fruit. It functions primarily as a moisturizer and emollient in cosmetic formulations, providing hydration to the skin while enhancing the texture and feel of products.

Sustai Insights

Prunus armeniaca oil offers functional benefits as a moisturizer and emollient, supporting skin hydration and texture. It is sustainably sourced with low environmental impact. Health risks are minimal, as it has low concerns for carcinogenicity, allergies, and reproductive toxicity. Regulatory bodies do not impose restrictions on its use. Overall, the ingredient is assessed to have low risk, making it a safe choice in cosmetic formulations. Alternatives include other plant oils that offer similar moisturizing properties.

Beeswax, Yellow

Beeswax, Yellow

Low Risk

Beeswax, yellow, is a natural wax produced by honeybees, primarily composed of esters of fatty acids and long-chain alcohols. It serves as an emulsifier, thickener, and stabilizer in cosmetic formulations, contributing to texture and consistency. It is commonly used in creams, balms, and lip products.

Sustai Insights

The smell is fantastic if you like the smell of Jaegermeister

I'll be honest, this lip balm smells like Jaeger bombs. Personally I'm absolutely loving the smell. Your lips will be moisturized for 24 hours no problem. A little goes a long way with this product. 3 pack will probably last at least 3 months + and that's if you use it once a day. The presentation with the packaging was also fantastic.

Was told this was a cold sore remedy

At least, that licorice lip balm can really help.Look, I've bought EXPENSIVE treatments, and this helped more than anything else OTC at a fraction of the price. It's also just nice scent/flavor and very moisturizing.

Only lip balm worth using

So I have never needed carmex or lip balm or any of that. I ordered this because I like licorice honestly plus Honest Amish doesn’t make junk just A++ items. They came in and tasted great on my lips! My wife and kids on the other hand actually need this stuff. They use all the other stuff out there but I let them try mine and I ordered 9 more of these 3 of each of the other ones because everyone loved them. My wife and daughter both said their lips felt better with this than the regular stuff they use and they both looked a lot better as well. I highly recommend.
