Vitamin D3

Vitamin D3

High Risk

Vitamin D3, also known as cholecalciferol, is a fat-soluble vitamin important for calcium metabolism and bone health. It is synthesized in the skin upon exposure to sunlight and is also found in some foods and supplements. Its primary function is to promote the absorption of calcium and phosphorus in the body.

Sustai Insights

Vitamin D3 offers functional benefits such as supporting bone health and immune function. However, excessive intake can lead to toxicity, presenting risks like hypercalcemia. Environmental concerns include its potential for bioaccumulation. Regulatory bodies impose usage restrictions due to these risks, resulting in a high overall risk assessment. Safe usage practices should be observed, and alternatives such as vitamin D2 may be considered.

Potassium Sorbate

Potassium Sorbate

Medium Risk

Potassium sorbate is a potassium salt of sorbic acid, primarily used as a preservative in food and cosmetic products. It inhibits the growth of molds, yeast, and some bacteria, extending the shelf life of products. It is commonly found in various formulations due to its effectiveness and low toxicity.

Sustai Insights

Potassium sorbate serves as an effective preservative, preventing microbial growth in food and cosmetic products, which is vital for safety and longevity. Although it has a low risk of carcinogenicity and developmental toxicity, there is a moderate concern regarding allergies and immunotoxicity. Environmentally, it poses minimal risks as it is not significantly bioaccumulative. Regulatory agencies have verified its use, although some products may face restrictions. Overall, it is assessed as a medium risk ingredient, with safe usage practices recommended, and alternatives such as natural preservatives could be considered.

May or may not want to buy

I brought several of these and it has a bit of an alcohol smell with each bottle. I’m not sure why that is. But it’s important for the buyers to know.

Different kind of soap

My family loves the Mrs. Meyers soaps, and I love getting the larger refill size because it’s usually less expensive than the individual bottles. What I like about it is that it seems less harsh on my already dry skin (my hands specifically). I get really bad cracked skin on my knuckles and this seems to be better than the other soaps I’ve tried. Also, the lavender smell is so good. One thing to know is that this soap doesn’t foam/bubble the way most do. But it does just a great a job as any other soap I’ve tried.
