Benzisothiazolinone

Benzisothiazolinone

High Risk

Benzisothiazolinone is a heterocyclic compound commonly used as a preservative in various products due to its effectiveness in preventing microbial growth. It is often found in paints, coatings, and personal care items.

Sustai Insights

Benzisothiazolinone serves effectively as a preservative, inhibiting bacterial and fungal growth, which prolongs product shelf life. However, it is associated with moderate allergenic potential and has high use restrictions due to regulatory concerns. Environmental risks include its classification as a pollutant, with potential bioaccumulation. Regulatory bodies have flagged it for unacceptable use levels in verified products, leading to an overall high-risk assessment. Safe usage practices are essential, and alternatives such as natural preservatives may be considered.

Dipropylene Glycol

Dipropylene Glycol

Medium Risk

Dipropylene glycol is a small molecular weight glycol that is commonly used as a solvent, humectant, and skin-conditioning agent in various cosmetic and personal care products. It is derived from propylene glycol and is noted for its ability to enhance the texture and stability of formulations.

Sustai Insights

Dipropylene glycol serves effectively as a solvent and humectant, contributing to product texture and moisture retention. Environmental concerns are minimal, with low bioaccumulation potential and no significant pollution risks. While health risks such as carcinogenicity, allergies, and reproductive toxicity are low, regulatory agencies do not classify it as hazardous. Usage should be aligned with safety guidelines to mitigate risks, and alternatives such as glycerin or propylene glycol may offer comparable benefits with potentially fewer concerns. Overall, the risk level is assessed as medium.

Works as it should

Stinks like really bad once it's on spot. Very strong smell. My dogs think my living room is their personal toilet. I strongly suggest wearing a mask and gloves. Pour a lot on bigger stains. It takes 24 to 48 hrs for smell to go away. Basically the longer that pee has been there the worse it will be. The enzymes

Works great!

I love how this eats up any organic stain and smells are GONE! I also love that it doesn’t get sudsy so it doesn’t need rinsing and it doesn’t attract dirt after the spot is cleaned. I’ve been using it on carpet since my new house has it and my dog likes to pee on it. I have a black light to find the spots he has peed and they do not totally disappear under black light even using my Little Green Machine so I suspect the dog can still smell it but I can 100% say people can not smell a thing. It’s a little pricy to me but worth not having my house smell like a dog bathroom.
