I was skeptical at first. I have had severe asthma since I was an infant. To put this into perspective, when I was born, Harry S. Truman was the President! Back then, with asthma as bad as I had/have it, there was little that could be done. My parents were all but told to prepare for the worst scenario. Well, I managed to survive and now there are some very effective drugs on the market for we who have severe asthma. The PROBLEM is, and I am sure you know this, life saving drugs are so outrageously priced one of the medications I take costs HUNDREDS of dollars until I meet my part D Medicare deductible. If you are over a certain level of income, you can't get any help at all with the cost, so right after the holidays, we are hit with this outrageously priced DISCUS (bet if you have asthma you know what discus to which I refer. Anyway, with asthma which differs from COPD because it is considered an acute condition rather than chronic, the problem is very similar. You can't breathe because you can't get air IN, because you have problems getting air OUT of your lungs. I have used this for 8 minutes as directed. That's all, only 8 minutes because I JUST got it. BUT, I noticed with each inhalation I was breathing deeper than I had been as long as I can remember! I can't wait to see what happens in 8 WEEKS! I am sure from time to time, I may still need chemical intervention, but I am willing to bet not nearly as often. Between that doggone discus I mentioned above, AND a rescue inhaler, I spend a car payment a month! I am literally for the first time thinking I may be onto something that reduces the cost with no side effects that often occur with the medications. Also, a side benefit is that I have allergies and when you exhale while using this product, you do it through your nose, and I noticed an immediate relief from nasal congestion, something I had to previously had to use drippy sprays that can actually cause more problems than they solve. I am hoping this first use and the immediate relief I felt which was unlike anything else I've experienced in 67 years, will only continue to improve the quality of my breathing, the deepness of breaths I can take and solve a nasal allergy problem as well. I was really impressed with the results of the Himalayan salt inhaler. When I ordered the inhaler I was suffering so severely from a bad case of bronchitis that the local urgent care doc sent me to the ER to be evaluated for a PE then the ER doc was so absolutely convinced she was correct (despite my protests to the contrary) that he wouldn't leave my side for nearly 3 hours. He wasn't satisfied it was "just" bronchitis until every test possible had been run and ALL results clearly showed I only had bronchitis (hey docs, I've had both before, I know how to tell the difference when I have each!) The inhaler they prescribed definitely helped but it was unrealistically expensive and it's chemical based - there has to be something better to use in the future, right?Then I found this Himalayan salt inhaler. The results are definitely worthwhile in my situation! It's stylish enough I can keep it near my recliner with the appearance it's just another knick knack or trinket. Periodically I breathe through it for 5 to 10 minutes to refresh my lungs while watching tv or reading a book. The "salt air" has a therapeutic effect to help improve breathing while the salt can hinder the bacteria and the viruses to help prevent bronchial issues from turning into pneumonia or worse.The only caveat - the inhaler does not include enough salt in my opinion. It's easy to refill, just refill with additional coarse Himalayan salt. I would not FILL the inhaler with salt, a 1/4 cup should be ample. There is a refill port on the bottom of the inhaler - use a small kitchen funnel. Note: the two ceramic sections are really one so it does NOT come apart.
