It functions primarily as a fragrance component and may also have preservative qualities due to its natural antimicrobial properties.

Sustai Insights

Picea mariana leaf oil offers functional benefits as a natural fragrance and potential antimicrobial agent, which can enhance product stability. However, it carries high usage restrictions and is associated with low risk for carcinogenicity, allergies, and reproductive toxicity. Environmental concerns include potential pollution and bioaccumulation. Regulatory warnings indicate heightened caution in use. Overall, the ingredient presents a high risk assessment, and users are advised to consider safer alternatives or limit exposure.

Bentonite

Bentonite

Medium Risk

Bentonite is a native hydrated colloidal aluminum silicate clay that is utilized in various products for its binding, thickening, and absorbent properties. It serves functions such as stabilizing emulsions and enhancing texture in formulations.

Sustai Insights

Bentonite offers functional benefits as a thickening agent and stabilizer, and it is often sourced sustainably. It has low concerns for carcinogenicity, allergies, and developmental toxicity, but moderate use restrictions exist. Environmental risks include potential pollutant characteristics. Regulatory bodies have noted these restrictions, suggesting careful usage. Overall, the risk level is assessed as medium, and users are advised to consider alternatives like kaolin clay for similar properties.

Sodium Bicarbonate

Sodium Bicarbonate

Low Risk

Sodium bicarbonate, commonly known as baking soda, is an inorganic compound with the formula NaHCO₃. It functions primarily as a leavening agent in baking, helping to produce carbon dioxide gas when it reacts with acids, thereby causing dough to rise. It also serves as a mild alkaline agent in various personal care products.

Sustai Insights

Sodium bicarbonate is valued for its effectiveness as a leavening agent and its role in neutralizing acidity, contributing to product stability. It is considered environmentally friendly and biodegradable. Health risks are minimal, with low concerns regarding carcinogenicity, allergies, and reproductive toxicity. It is not classified as a pollutant and poses no significant environmental hazards. Regulatory assessments indicate it is safe for use in food and cosmetic products. Sustai Insights

Diatomaceous earth serves functional benefits such as effective absorption and filtration. It is generally considered safe with low risks for carcinogenicity, allergies, and reproductive toxicity. However, it has high persistence and bioaccumulation potential, raising environmental concerns. Regulatory bodies impose some restrictions on its use, but overall, it is assessed to pose low risk. Safe usage practices include avoiding inhalation of dust. Alternatives include kaolin clay or other natural absorbents.

Calcite

Calcite

Low Risk

Calcite is a mineral primarily made up of calcium carbonate (CaCO3). It is commonly found in sedimentary rocks and is used in various applications, including construction, agriculture, and as a filler in products due to its whiteness and brightness.

Sustai Insights

Calcite offers functional benefits such as acting as a filler and providing opacity in products. It is sustainably sourced and biodegradable. Health risks are minimal, with low concerns regarding carcinogenicity, allergies, and reproductive toxicity. Environmental risks are also low, as calcite does not contribute significantly to pollution or bioaccumulation. Regulatory bodies do not impose restrictions on its use, affirming its safety. A forever product for me

Now that I use this, I can't go back to normal toothpaste. I have these white spots on my front teeth that make me really self conscious and this is the only solution I've tried that actually helps. The spots aren't completely gone, but they are much less noticeable. I have tried everything, and this is the real deal.

Can't say enough good things about this toothpaste!

What is not to love, the thoughtful ingredients, the results. Someone did their homework on this one, the formula is absolutely going to promote healthier teeth and gums. Teeth feel cleaner, gums healthier. Takes the tarter off, and if there is any left a simple dentist tool and it comes right off. I am sincere in saying this is the best tooth powder I have ever used.

My teeth feel like they have just been cleaned by a dentist

I like how this makes my teeth feel. I like the mint flavor this has and I have sensitivities to peppermint so it is nice this is spearmint without peppermint, where so many other mint powers still contain peppermint. I do wish it had a little more mint flavor than it does. I also had to get used to a dry feeling in the back of my throat. And, No. I don't swallow the powder, but I think the clay in this causes it.

GOOD ...

I like this toothpaste although I don’t use it daily. I use it a couple times a week in between my regular toothpaste. It takes a little to get used to it, if all you have ever used is tube toothpaste all your life, but worth it. Happy with my purchase.
